Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of many borders.

The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau casino, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel building that features numerous comforts accompanying the gambling den, which offers ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
